This is Nagoya Lucent Tower on one sunny day.
Nagoya Lucent Tower is an office building opened in 2007 and has become one of Nagoya’s landmark towers.
There are various recommendable restaurants, too.
It’s about five minutes walk from Nagoya station through the underground passage called Lucent Avenue directly leading to this building.
Thanks to this passage, you won’t be bothered by the weather when you want to walk to the place from the station!
The shape of the building is very interesting.
The front face is curving and getting narrower to the top.
The back face is just flat and that makes this building look like a common square-shaped building.
It looks differently depending on the direction.
I’ll report the restaurants another time!

An “aka-chouchin” is a Japanese red paper lantern.
This kind of lanterns are usually hung in front of Japanese-style pubs.
The lantern says "dote(どて)."
"Dote" is a kind of chitterlings cooked in "hacchou-miso" the bean-based red miso.
It’s a typical local cuisine in Nagoya area.
It looks very dark like coffee because of using the red miso.
It also says "oden(おでん)."
"Oden" is a Japanese stew-like dish usually cooked in a clear broth.
But in this area, it is cooked in "hacchou-miso."
It’s called "miso-oden" and looks dark as coffee, again...
It’s a front view of the pub.
The lantern says "kushi-katsu."
"Kushi-katsu" is deep-fried pieces of pork on skewers.
It’s usually dipped in a sauce like Worcester sauce right before eating, but not in Nagoya, of course!
It’s dipped in a hacchou-miso sauce!
Can you see how much the red miso is loved by Nagoyan people?

Let’s cool off at Noritake-no-mori!http://nollie22.exblog.jp/13914315/2010-09-03T17:56:00+09:002010-11-15T11:41:23+09:002010-09-03T17:55:27+09:00nollie22名古屋あるき strolling
It’s September but hot as ever!!!
How about some waterside flowers?
Does anybody know the name of this flower?
Noritake-no-mori is a well-kept park run by Noritake Company the famous porcelain maker.
It’s located less than a mile from Nagoya station.
There are a café, a restaurant, shops, and museums among the beautiful greenery.
You can also enjoy pottery experience.
Admission to the park is free. (Some facilities charge fees though.)
Unfortunately, no English reception is available.
This is one of my favorite places around Nagoya and I’m sure I’ll tell you more about the place from time to time.
Have anice weekend!

I happened to encounter an old church near Nagoya station.
Looking up for a whole picture.
Fancy doors and gates.
It’s St. George’s Church.
One of the pair, so cute!
To me, this church didn’t look like one of those typical wedding chapels in Japan.
(I don’t like those cheap-looking wedding chapels built in imitation of the old Western style.)
This church looked rather real and I thought that maybe it’s actually used for services on Sundays.
So I looked it up in the internet…
…and…well, it was just one of those wedding chapels...
BUT, it said that this church was built in 19th century and was moved from England to Nagoya.
I see. At least it’s British made!

These are Twin towers of Mei-eki around midnight.
I guarantee that local people call Nagoya station “Mei-eki” but never “Nagoya-eki.”
I like to hear people from outside of Tokai area call it “Nagoya-eki” for it makes me feel ‘Welcome to Nagoya!’
One more from another angle.
Can you see the towers reflected in the mirror-finished building?
These photos were taken from the west side area of the station usually called “eki-nishi.”
I like to see Twin towers from the west side especially in the evening.
In the daytime, I would recommend Spiral towers!

August is almost over.
Last weekend, Nippon Domannaka Matsuri (popularly called “Domatsuri”) was held in the city of Nagoya.
It’s the largest dance festival in this area, with about 23,000 performers and over two million viewers.
This year, I didn't plan but happened to enjoy a part of the dance parade at Endouji venue.
The team truck leads the dancers.
